Wisconsin State Fair - August 8, 2010 Author: Derek P Attendees: Brandon C, Amanda 2, Jessica, David W, Jon, Derek P, David P, Alex H, Dylan, Phaedra, Craig, Jerry W, Kyra, Pat, and Tom We stayed the course at State Fair this last year as we created balloons and handed them out to people that passed by in exchange for an answer to a health question to inform them about the proper way to handle a medical problem on the spot. With the rotation of the members, the design of balloons varied based on who was on duty at the time. The true gold of the event was the conversation that occurred while off duty and exploring the fair in all of its deep fried glory. Other things that occurred this last year were the adventure in the expo building and the recovery after the catastrophe that occurred within the expo. A number of youth members decided it was a good idea to venture off after the event and sample the hottest salsa and hot sauce they would legally allow them to try. The result was frantic pleas for liquid and food that would damper and lessen the effects of the burn. For David P in particular, his experience with the hot sauce was by far the best, as he didn’t expect the effects to be even remotely near what he had to go through. Overall I would say that this event in particular is one of the better post events that I’ve been to. It achieves its objective for interacting with the public community, as well as provided a fun and enjoyable experience and stories for the members that they will never forget. This event is highly enjoyable and it will continue to be! Explorer Post 63 Holiday Party The Survival On January 5th, 2008 Post 63 got together to celebrate the holidays. Everyone met at AMF Bowling Lanes and were pumped to throw shiny balls down a shiny lane. Post 63 fought over the computer to change everyone else's names. Some got revenge but others didn't care about anything but having a jolly-old time. After hours of bowling, Post 63 was hungry and insanely craved pizza. A large mass of teenagers walking down Chicago Avenue wearing black and lime green hoodies representing Post 63 were looked at very strangely. Post 63 made it the 2 blocks to Pizza Hut. Once inside Manda, Bean, Nancy, Ashley, Flag, Brandon, Derek, and Emily gorged themselves on unlimited amounts of pizza. The adults Pat, Tom, Jaynie, Craig, Kim, Scott, Phaedra, Dan, Jerry W. and Mr. Jerry TRIED to look, talk and act sophisticated and well behaved. The youth members exchanged their secret santa gifts and opened greedily. Post 63 bought the youth awesome wind-up flashlights and the youth were mesmerized by them. No one wanted to get up and leave because everyone was having fun at the Post 63 Christmas Party. By Emily. AHA Heartwalk 2007 On October 13th 2007 the Post helped out in the parking lot of the American Heart Association Heart Walk at GE Healthcare in Wauwatosa on Innovation Drive. Although this event called for members to report to an icy parking lot before sunrise all in attendance we in high spirits because Phaedra provided coffee, yay for caffeine! Members in attendance included Jackie, Brandon one, Derek, Phaedra, Jaynie, Pat, Tom, Kim and last but not least a surprise visitor from the north Ali! While we were in the parking lots the head guy running this event was highly impressed with our traffic control skills and felt the need to ride around on a golf cart throwing compliments left and right, which proved a very nice ego boost. While the youth were placed around the lot they had college student buddies who were also on traffic duty. During the event the youth acted so mature that everyone including their college helpers thought they were also college age. When asked what he thought of the event Brandon replied, “Playing DDR was a lot of fun, and I really liked riding in the back of that guys truck to pick up the cones at the end.” All in all this years heart walk was a success. By: Jackie St. Francis Days Festival 2007 Aug 30 - Sept 2, 2007 Once every year about a week before school starts, Post does the event that they are sponsored for: St Francis Days. This consists of camping, Dan bringing coffee, parking cars for hours on end, and last but not least, Gary's release form Kiel. As well as doing security and spending a lot of time playing, we actually got something accomplished. We helped the community by parking el caros and helping to keep the premises safe for everyone to enjoy. The people who attended were: Gary, Hayden, Emily, Nancy, Jon, Bean, Moose, Flag, Jackie, Bentz, Berg, Dan, Phaedra, Jaynie, Pat, Jerry W., Mr. Jerry, Kim, Pete, Demeny, and Craig The story of the pinkish eyed Nancy. You see, Nancy went to his work to be paid under minimum wage, and after cleaning up after particular gentleman, he returned back to camp. The following morning, he found his right eye crusted together. Later that night, one used an entire bottle on his/her eye. Emily wiped the access water away and awoke the next morning HEALED. By: Nancy and Dippy Explorer Post 63 Leadership and Community Service Award This year the Explorer Post 63 adult committee was honored to recognize Ali and Katrina for their outstanding personal achievement in the Post. They have both demonstrated superior leadership skills and a commitment to service for the community, by the community. Well done! MCFI Thank you Dinner 2006 Many hours of planning went into this long awaited camping trip. Those who attended were: Amanda, Gary, Max, Dominic, Jon, Jeanna, Jerry, Jackie, Kaytlyn, Dave, Craig, Pete, Demeny, Pat, Tom, Phaedra, Greg, Jaynie, and Dan. When we arrived, our tents were already setup by the fantastic efforts of Dan, Jerry, and Phaedra. The youth retreated to bed after assembling the large canopy together and the adults chatted around the colorful campfire. In the morning there was a feast for breakfast before the youth were swept away to be stationed at their checkpoints to provide First Aid for the thousands of scouts hiking the trail. The weather was considerably nice considering past years. There was some rain, and the West bluff was therefore closed. At checkpoint 4 the youth found a mascot they named Handicapped Aspen. Returning to the camp after the hike had completed we dined on stew and prepared for the dance. Each youth worked a shift at one of the dances and enjoyed the music for the other shift. Then we returned to camp to snack on pudgie pies on the colorful fire. In the morning after all gear was cleaned and packed, we stopped at the ferry, dined on ice cream and headed home, but not without a stop a the Pinecone. It was much fun, and we all look forward to next year's adventure. Root River Trail 2006 We arrived early and met the geese on Root River Trail, then we set up the canopy, enjoyed donuts, and then wrapped up in Post blankets. We spent the day providing First Aid and water to scouts who walked and biked past. We also enjoyed large Oreos at checkpoint 1. Those who attended were Ali, Jon, Jeanna, Kaytlyn, Mr. Jerry, Tom, Pat, Jerry W, Kim, and even Chopper. To complete the day, we went to Pizza Hut where we just nearly escaped the rain. Thanks to everyone who helped!
Project Concern 2006 Thanks to all who attended, we collected 15,026
pounds of food for Project Concern. |
